Review: The Dead Will Rise First by Logan Kain

Blurb:

The Christian rapture occurs and the now soulless bodies of Christians are left to terrorize all those left behind. TJ flees across Texas with his best friend, Ryan, and the remnants of his family, hoping for happiness, struggling just to survive. As they trek farther and farther South toward the coast, TJ and Ryan find comfort and love with one another. Their relationship is tested and they labor to stay alive and stay together in a world that God has unfortunately started to pay attention to.

My Thoughts:

While this book has a lot of religion within its pages I absolutely loved it. I normally avoid books dealing with religion like they were a plague, simply because it doesn't do it for me. I often feel like I am being preached to but that was far from the case here.

The story is about TJ who is a young gay man that struggles with his religion. Why would God make him gay if it is supposed to be wrong? This question is one that I am sure has wracked the brains of many members of the LGBT community that have come from religious homes.

TJ is in love with his best friend Ryan and has been for a long time. When the world as they know it comes to an end TJ and Ryan finally admit they have feelings for each other. Ryan tells TJ he never looked for love with all of the girls he had been with because it was always TJ for him.

At this point I had very high hopes that maybe, in the face of the apocalypse these wonderful guys would be able to find love and happiness with each other.

The "Big Bad" in this book is difficult to label. In the book they are called "Neighbors" to me they are pretty close to zombies. They are so much more than what we think of as zombies though. As it says in the blurb.."The Christian rapture occurs and the now soulless bodies of Christians are left to terrorize all those left behind." Basically people are fine one minute and the next they are attacking those around them. They DO NOT infect people they bite like typical zombies do. They speak, they rape, they maime, they kill. They are soulless bodies with no morals. All that is left is a body and whatever "evil" was in them.

I really don't want to spoil the book for anyone so I am going to avoid any more plot points. I do feel the need to say that you simply must read this book!
There is NO sex in it, so if you are skittish about reading a M/M romance because of that then this is definitely one to try. Oh but please keep in mind that this is like a zombie book and we all know in zombie books not everyone survives!

Logan Kain has done an excellent job with this book. I could not stop reading it and had it read from start to finish in just a few hours. I laughed and cried at times but was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading this book. I certainly hope Logan has many more stories to share us!

I very highly recommend this book!

Review: Master Prince (Masters of Tabu #2) by Gray Dixon

Blurb:

The Masters of Tabu center around the journey of college friends from Dallas, Texas, seeking redemption, healing and love when they least expect it. Hot days and sizzling nights await—Marcus Knight, Mitchell Prince, Jared King, Shane Marshal, Brock Dragon and Jagger Squire with Simon Tempest, a friend of Marcus Knight rounding out the co-owners of Club Tabu, a BDSM private club. Dallas will never be the same.

Mitchell Prince, is a Dom with an attitude. He’s the Chief Counsel of Knight Enterprises and has a private practice in Dallas, Texas, which keeps him busy. He’s also a co-owner in Club Tabu and tends to watch and monitor more than have a sub of his own. He has yet to find the right partner to fulfill his darkest desires to control and challenge him physically and mentally.

Guilianna Hathaway, nicknamed Anna by her closest friends, is no princess but can play with the Big Boys in the courtroom. She’s a hard-edged attorney representing women and children. Her latest client files a civil suit against Club Tabu and the owners for negligence due to an alleged rape and assault of her client by another patron of the BDSM club. She’s curious about the goings on in an establishment catering to the abuse of women, or what she assumes happens there and returns to the “crime scene” for research and is stunned and shocked by what she finds. Once she meets with Mitchell Prince at Club Tabu, not only is she attracted to the tall, dark and handsome attorney representing the club, she’s also drawn into the BDSM world. Discovering she has a submissive nature is a revelation she’s willing to explore. With the right Dom, that is.

Will Mitch and Anna plead the fifth and follow the laws of nature rather than the laws they uphold in court?

My Thoughts:

I loved how fiesty Anna was. She was definitely a match for Mitch. I was intrigued when she bumped heads with him in the very beginning and threw him off balance every chance she got. Seeing these two get together was a ride worth taking.
I love the BDSM aspect of this story and I can't wait to read more about Club Tabu and the other owners!
I would definitely recommend this book and book 1!

Review: College Boys (Men of Holsum College #1) by Daisy Harris

Title: College Boys (Men of Holsum College #1)
Author: Daisy Harris
Publisher: Siren Publishing (Classic Manlove)
Pub Date: May 9, 2012

Blurb:

When soccer star Chris Fischer moves next door to an openly gay classmate, he doesn't realize the wall between their rooms will be so thin he'll hear his neighbor's every move. But soon he and Peter become friends, and Chris is intrigued—imagining what happens on the other side of the wall.

Active on the Queer Student Council, Peter Cohen wishes he wasn't so damn hot for his straight neighbor. He can't tell if Chris is flirting or in denial or what, but Chris's innocent overtures lure Peter into flirtation that throws his world into chaos. Peter doesn't want to date a closet case, but he desperately, passionately wants Chris.

Soon Chris must choose whether to run away from his new feelings or embrace a relationship with the guy he loves. And Peter must decide if he can give his heart to a guy who hasn't yet figured it all out.

My Thoughts:

Chris and Peter were very strong characters. Both are in college and find themselves neighbors/roomates. Peter is openly gay, but Chris has always thought himself straight.
I quickly became absorbed in this story. I couldn't put it down either, in fact I ended up reading it in one sitting.
I loved the way these guys became friends first and then slowly moved into more. The connection that they form is solid and the sex is very hot! I would definitely recommend this book.

Review: Undaunted (Freedom #2) by Jessica Freely

Blurb:

Larke didn't know Droje was a rebel when he found him beaten and bruised in an alley. Now they're on the run and there's no going back. While Larke can't get enough of Droje's hot body, the man's radical ideas --like freedom and justice for all -- challenge his whole worldview. There may be more to life than illicit sex and survival, but unless Larke can get Droje to the safe house in time, neither of them will survive long enough to find out.

This sequel to Unlawful is the second short story in the Freedom Series, set in the universe of Jessica Freely's novella, His Own Devices.

My Thoughts:

I really love these guys. Larke and Droje are a wonderful fit for each other. This book picked up right where Unlawful left off (which I love) and shows the guys fight for freedom.
I would definitely recommend this series, especially if you enjoy M/M and science fiction!

Review: Tigers and Devils (Tigers and Devils #1) by Sean Kennedy

Blurb:

The most important things in Simon Murray’s life are football, friends, and film —in that order. His friends despair of him ever meeting someone, but despite his loneliness, Simon is cautious about looking for more. Then his best friends drag him to a party, where he barges into a football conversation and ends up defending the honour of star forward Declan Tyler—unaware that the athlete is present. In that first awkward meeting, neither man has any idea they will change each other's lives forever.

Like his entire family, Simon revels in living in Melbourne, the home of Australian Rules football and mecca for serious fans. There, players are treated like gods—until they do something to fall out of public favour. This year, the public is taking Declan to task for suffering injuries outside his control, so Simon's support is a bright spot.

But as Simon and Declan fumble toward a relationship, keeping Declan's homosexuality a secret from well-meaning friends and an increasingly suspicious media becomes difficult. Nothing can stay hidden forever. Soon Declan will have to choose between the career he loves and the man he wants, and Simon has never been known to make things easy—for himself or for others.

My Thoughts:

Being an American I was totally confused by 27% as to which sport Declan was actually playing. I did what most of us do when we need to know something...I googled it!

Australian Rules Football is a combination of several sports we play here in the US...Check out this video on You Tube.

It explained a lot and gave me a much better understanding of what was going on in the book.

As for the story, it took me a little bit to really get sucked in. I really loved Declan and Simon but their serious lack of communication was frustrating. They had a ton of outside forces working against them and they added to it by not talking things out.

Neither one of these characters had any kind of break. It was constantly something nagging at them. If they could have just gotten away from it all they would have finally had a bit of peace with each other.

I really enjoyed reading this book, once I was pulled in the story flowed nicely and I couldn't put it down. I would definitely recommend this book and I will be looking for more by Sean Kennedy.

Review: Sexy Red Hood by Daryl Devore

Blurb:

A twisted contemporary version of Little Red Riding Hood. Red Hood is sent by her mother to rescue her grandmother and on the way she meets a woodsman and a wolf. An emerald necklace and Red both disappear. The love of her life rescues her -the woodsman or the wolf? Remember - it's twisted.

My Thoughts:

This is quite a different retelling of the classic Little Red Riding Hood that we are all acustom to. It is definitey an adults only version, but a great one at that! I loved that there was a bit of mystery added in and even though the names gave a bit away as to who was who, you still weren't sure who Red would finally have in her bed. The fact that this took place on a seniors cruise was an added touch I really enjoyed. And the roll play at the end of the book was just so fitting!! I would definitely recommend this title and I will be reading more from this author.

Blog Tour~ Goal: A Love Story by Bellamy Black

Title: Goal: A Love Story
Author: Bellamy Black
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 200 pages
Release Date: June 3, 2013

Blurb:

Jenny Wales is a local television star who has everything she needs: good friends, a great career, and a gorgeous apartment with an outstanding shower. The only thing missing in her life is love, something that she hasn't made time for in her quest to be the best reporter in town.

An international soccer star, Paolo Gutierrez is a reluctant celebrity looking for a quieter life away from the glitz and glamour of Europe. He longs for chance to remember the game he loves and build a life for himself far from the paparazzi's lens.

When Jenny and Paolo meet, it's love at first sight. It should be a simple story of boy meets girl, but the team, the town, and the entire world seem to have an opinion on their love affair. Up against a losing streak, Victoria Beckham wannabes, and the risk of losing their careers, Jenny and Paolo will have to fight to win this game of love.

Excerpt :

Jenny's lips fall open as she stares at the man formerly known as Paolo. "I" she says with some disgust, "am the worst reporter ever".

Paolo reaches out, places a gentle finger under her chin, and shuts her mouth. "You are not the worst reporter," he says softly, willing his cheeks to not turn red. He grimaces at her expression;, she looks so dismayed, adorable but dismayed. "I am just good at evading reporters." He shrugs helplessly, giving her what he hopes is an apologetic yet winning smile. "I've had to be." It does not seem to be working. "I've had a lot of experience over the years. Paolo tries not to shrink back as her expressions changes from dismay to fury.

"Well." She leans toward him with an angry light in her eye. "I'm sure you've had a lot experience with that, fifteen years, I believe." She hisses through her teeth, "Juan Carlos "the Assassin" Gutierrez."

Paolo gazes at her in awe, mesmerized by the fire in her eyes. She is really something. Gorgeous. He draws back as she squints at him. And a little terrifying. I like it. "Actually." He chuckles weakly. "It is Juan Carlos Paolo Gutierrez. The Spanish press like to drop the Paolo and replace it with Assassin. It drives my mother crazy." He chuckles again. "And you pronounced it excellently."

"Well, thanks," she snaps, folding her arms. "I got tips from an expert." Her knee bounces in agitation. "Right now, I don't know if I'm more aggravated with you",Her angry gaze flies around the room, landing on the leader of the Conga. "Or with that wooly mammoth over there who has been masquerading as my best friend." Jenny's eyes narrow to slits.

Across the room, Rocky stumbles, nearly falling into one of the men he'd told Paolo were called the Wonder Twins.

"Prepare for extinction." Jenny starts to rise.

"Wait." Paolo places a hand on her knee, not wanting her to leave. "I am sorry for misleading you. It was my fault." He confesses, "He had no choice. Please don't be upset with Rocky."

"He had no choice? Rocky?" She seems dubious but she slumps back onto the sofa, her eyes flitting between the hand on her knee and his eyes. Paolo smiles at her gently and her eyes narrow again but she makes no attempt to remove his hand. "What was it 'the Guy Code?"

"No." He scoffs. "Nothing as silly as that." Paolo sighs, squeezing her knee almost absentmindedly as he gathers his thoughts, trying to find the best way to explain his friendship with Rocky. He squeezes again and Jenny lets out a little giggle. Paolo pretends not to hear her as he turns his eyes to her and holds her gaze, wanting her to see his sincerity and honest regret. "It was a handshake and a spit oath."

Review:

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Normally I am not a fan of sports books, but in this case it really worked.
I really liked Paolo and Jenny. They were so cute and just an adorable couple. I loved reading their story. There was some repitition that became irritating, but it didn't really take away from the storyline. If you enjoy New Adult books I would recommend this story. *I recieved this book for review but that has in no way effected my opinion.*
